2010 was an interesting year for Calgarians, and no less for northeast residents and business. With the closure of Barlow trail coming April 3 for the expansion of the Calgary International Airport, both the added runway and terminal, traffic congestion is expected to increase. The Airport Trail Access Committee (ATAC) was formed in 2009 to insure North East Calgary was given proper access to the Airport. The committee was compiled of members of the Calgary Hotel Association and other Business people as well as several Community associations. Ward 3 Alderman Jim Stevenson along with others lobbied long and hard to insure the Tunnel on Airport Tr was included in the plans for the expansion.
